Architect, Rene Robert Mueller, got approached, with recommondations of his previous clientelle, by a client to review a display-concept for a portion of his enormous sports memorabilia collection in a restaurant setting.
After a very successful design session the Architect was retained to start planning and implementing the design concept in an existing restaurant structure the client most recently bought at that time. The structure was the previous restaurant named The Bavarian Inn built in 1927 on Route 9 in Garrison, New York.
The lengthy, successful planning, time for ascertaining all permits and construction lasted 14 months and finally The Stadium Restaurant opened its doors in April 1999.
The appearance of the Stadium is reminiscent of the old Yankee Stadium. The 6,500 sq. ft. Restaurant has two dining areas for 120 patrons with an outdoor patio for 40 more, a major bar with 11 over head televisions and a large 8 foot screen to display major sports events. More than 1000 original sport memorabilia items in over 50 show cases are displayed. The existing stone fireplace located at the main entrance was fully restored and in working order.
A new parking layout was implemented to accomodate 84 cars, terraced on three differnent levels in rear of the Restaurant. The Chef and Manager are residing in the renovated attached residence in rear of the Restaurant.
As per the Owner; It is one of the largest indivitual collections in the country and boasts such unique items as two Heiman trophies, Mickey Mantle's triple crown award, six Gold Glove awards, three Silver Bat batting awards, two Cy Young awards, three MVP baseball awards, baseball and hockey Hall of Fame plaques and a football Hall of Fame bust and other fantastic items.
