Six houses on the Spanish Atlantic Coast.
Description: The gabled roof with an open wooden structure on the inside is the common element in all houses. Three blocks, consisting of living room, bedrooms and adjoining rooms, are arranged individually according to the conditions of each plot to create personalized houses with a single system. 38cm insulated brick walls plus optimal orientation guarantee low energy consumption, the sheltered porch with an outdoor fireplace and the large window openings respond to the climatic conditions of a mild but rainy coastal area.
Background: The concept was developed in response to a need for relatively small single-family houses and consists in an open living space plus two to three bedrooms on a single level of between 1450 and 1750sqft, on 13500sqft plots with a slight slope towards the southeast. Aesthetic specifications for the rural area required tiled gable roofs. The project being a private housing development, our aim was to avoid repetitions while keeping costs low. The result is a sort of mecano with repeated spatial configurations which we rotate and mirror to obtain optimal orientations for every single house.
