THE SHUTTER
AWAKENING THE COLLECTOR’S GEM
For generations, Saphan Lek has been a treasury for collectors seeking classic cameras, lenses, and photography equipment. For ages, the redevelopment of Saphan Lek has shifted its spirit to the renowned Mega Plaza, formerly Merry King's. This legendary collectibles hub still retains its predecessor's charm, with endless corridors and glass displays.
The Shutter, a 23-year-old camera store nestled inside, has recently transformed renovation that bridges the gap between nostalgic charm and inspiring sense. The Shutter has been a photography enthusiast's destination, with its exceptional collection of classic cameras, rare lenses, and accessories.
While photography technology has evolved consistently, the core mechanical elements including cameras and lenses, remain essential tools for capturing moments. The essence takes inspiration from these features and interprets them into architectural language.
A cylindrical metallic element interprets the forms of photographic mechanisms. These sculptural features are integrated throughout the store, serving multiple purposes, including tables, stools, counters, lighting fixtures, and display units.
Beyond technical precision, photography's power exists within perspective viewpoints. Therefore, glass wall panels are intended to create captivating optical illusions that enlarge the store's perceived boundaries, expand visual horizons, and maximize the potential of its collection display.
The layout has been entirely redesigned to remove the cluttered appearance with the new display cabinets rearranged along the store's borders, filled with transparent glass exhibiting curated collections. Counters and benches guide continuous visual lines through their reflections in the glass wall panels, while the accent display niches expand the possibilities of showcase within limited space. Moreover, the language of classic cameras inspired the material palette, integrating reflective surfaces and continuous lines with sleek materials to bring on the bold synergy that reflects the past while embracing the future.
As The Shutter enters its next chapter, the store has transformed into a sanctuary for photography enthusiasts while maintaining an authentic connection to the community. The renovation steps over physical transformation and reflects the timeless spirit of the brand. Celebrating the power of photography that seamlessly bridges past and present.
