Competition entry for the Boscombe Beach Hut for Disabled Users Competition. This design preserves the singular nature of the semi-detached beach hut through the use of a screen wall that performs a variety of purposes. While the shape preserves the image of a gabled roofline and demarcates the individual units, the perforation pattern is derived from lace curtain design (the traditional English approach to privacy) and serves to break up sunlight before it reaches the translucent south-facing front wall. This helps to moderate the interior temperature of the hut on sunny summer days while providing a bright interior for low-vision users.
