The Rug Garden - DESIGN COMPETITION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ORGANISATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFEREN
FDG was selected for the
second stage of the international competition. The initial idea was retained,
but it needed clarifying, studying, modifying, disclosing. It was an exciting
challenge from the word go. Representing the entire community of Islamic
peoples was a major task, which is why we opted for linearity and simplicity. A
cylinder, a tower, a decorative pattern – alluding respectively to the
mathematical sciences, to the minaret, to culture. And an immense rug/garden
facing towards Mecca.
