The Red Lion is a listed 17th century public house situated on the green in the Norfolk village of Caston. The pub had been closed for a
number of years when bought by our client and therefore an extensive refurbishment
was necessary to bring new life to a tired and tatty building. The aim of the renovation was to create homely and
inviting spaces and to celebrate the existing character of this listed
building. A number of changes were made to
the layout of the ground floor spaces to create more space for diners
and to improve the functionality of the kitchen and toilet areas. The impractical layout of the
first floor flat was altered to create a new family living room with kitchenette, a master bedroom, a 2nd bedroom and new bathroom, making this flat a suitable home for a small family. The
charm of the existing building has been revealed through the removal of
unsympathetic 20th century additions. Unsuitable wall and floor
finishes have been stripped back and replaced with materials more appropriate for the nature
of this historic building. It is hoped that this renovation will give the
Red Lion a new lease of life and that it will go on to serve the
village of Caston for many years to come
