Renovation of a 1-Room flat at La Barceloneta neighborhood, one of Barcelona’s most known beaches, and one of Europe’s best urban beaches.
The flat is located in a typical building of this quarter, with two apartments per floor and 3 or 4 floors height, giving as a result small flats with a surface of 38 sqm approximately.
The renovation must include the creation of a new kitchen and reorganize the living-dining room as well as the bedroom. The bathroom was recently renovated, so the work on this space should be only to replace some damaged pieces.
Repairing windows, main door, replace old interior doors and new pavement all over the flat was also included in the work planning.
It was decided to locate the kitchen on one of the sides of the living room, as an open kitchen that could be integrated with the dining room. In order to give it a greater resistance, the kitchen is a unique clay-brick-furniture with a series of voids, able to accommodate all the appliances as the kitchen sink, glass ceramic or the fridge.
The furniture as well as the wall that holds it is tiles coated in white and grey tones, contrasting with the red wall and ceiling that delimitates the dining room area. This limit is accentuated by the wall-to-wall fluorescent light, which also acts as a work light for the kitchen area.
In the entrance, was created a closet for technical elements as water heater, washing machine, cleaning, etc, that can be hidden when desired. For the bedroom, was decided to make an opened closet, giving more versatility to this space and accentuating the sense of spaciousness that we wanted this space to have.
The bed backrest is also a fix furniture, with such a dramatic void from wall-to-wall, also in red from where emanates the reading light from a continuous led strip, releasing the space around the bed and giving to the whole dormitory a stylish look.
The interior doors, this is the bedroom and bathroom doors, are sliding doors, optimizing too the space around the apartment.
The main door, that was in bad conditions, was completely repaired, recovering the characteristics and beautiful original elements as well as its dark-brown original color.
For the pavement, we decided to use parquet, due to its warmth sensation properties. For the kitchen-dining, were selected parquet tiles in the same tone and color of the rest or the apartment, producing a continuity-of-the-space sensation.
The selected color, the red, was then to be the protagonist, appearing on the kitchen furniture, dining area wall and ceiling, interior doors, wood beams and backrest furniture.
The rest of the furniture is meant to be very functional, choosing white tones, in order to amplify the sense of space and brightness of the new flat, The Red.
