The Ratskeller - Traditional gastronomy in a modern interpretation

In the heart of Stuttgart, DIA - Dittel Architekten has successfully completed the core renovation of the Ratskeller. In the basement of the city hall, Swabian culture receives a new and modern design image in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Due to its prominent location in the heart of Stuttgart's old town, the traditional pub is a central meeting place and contributes to a sustainable revitalization of the cityscape through the modernization. Since December 2021, guests have been invited here to enjoy "Stories of yesteryear, dishes of today".
The basic idea of the renovation translates traditional inn elements into a modern context and plays with a charming and stylish gastronomy concept. High-quality materials of light and dark wood structures and atmospheric, warm color tones complement each other with industrial elements to create a symbiosis of tradition and modernity.
The formerly small-scale and screened basement now opens up to Hirschstraße and the marketplace. The entrance area via the gallery provides a view of the open space and the sociable happenings in the Ratskeller. The barrier-free staircase leads guests to the open and inviting lounge area of the restaurant. High-quality armchairs made of nut-brown leather and golden wall details introduce the warm color palette and direct the eye to the centerpiece of the room - the house bar. Its bar presents a raw industrial design and sets modern accents in a traditional ambiance. Adjacent, tall sets in a light, natural wood look offer another seating option.
A custom-designed "beer vault" in black lattice design acts as an exciting room divider in a central position and introduces the raised area on the opposite side. Here, banqueting niches with dark real wood paneling and upholstery in an old gold hue provide inviting and friendly seating, while the suspended gold-colored metal grid ceiling with individually arranged Lightbulbs creates a pleasant lighting atmosphere. The modernly staged wall fresco lends the room a charming ambience and is a reminder of the Ratskeller's long history and tradition.
In the large, multifunctional conference room, the design concept is fluidly continued: Round ceiling lights in a modern look contrast with noble, dark wooden furniture and complement each other in an inviting room composition. The flexible wall fixture can be used as a room divider to free up the area for either large meetings and events or small celebrations.
