QSAS, the Middle East’s first performance-based sustainability rating
system, was developed by BARWA and Qatari Diar Research Institute
(BQDRI), in association with the T.C. Chan Center for Building
Simulation and Energy Studies. The primary objective of Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS)
is to create a sustainable built environment that minimizes ecological
impact while addressing the specific regional needs and environment of
Qatar. The built environment contributes to air pollution, land
use and contamination, fossil fuel depletion, water depletion, materials
depletion, impacts on human health, and climate change. Responsible
design, construction and building operations can mitigate the negative
effects of the built environment.Recommended for adoption as the GCC
standard for green building in the construction industry, QSAS underpins
Qatar’s goal to create a green legacy for generations to come.
