The Powers Art Center sits in a former cow pasture, which is
part of a 400 acre working ranch at the edge of Carbondale, Colorado.
The 15,000 sq. ft. red sandstone structure directly faces
13,000 ft. Mt. Sopris; is the only museum in the world solely dedicated to the
work of Jasper Johns and possibly the only museum completely devoted to a
living artist.
The project incorporates an 11,000 ft. geothermal loop, an
LED lighting system, and a roof mounted 44 KW solar photovoltaic system.
The Powers Art Center functions as an artist scholar
retreat, where Jasper John’s work can be quietly considered, in addition to
serving the general public.
