THE POND HOUSE: A Riverside Retreat for Retirees
THE POND HOUSE is a retirement residence project located on the edge of an original pond that serves as a natural water storage. The main intention of the project is to create a private, peaceful space, suitable for relaxation and fulfilling life after retirement, while also being able to accommodate family members, especially children who visit on holidays. The building plan is designed to emphasize an open view to the pond, which is located in the northeast. This design allows the house area to receive morning light that hits the water, creating a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere in the morning. There is also a terrace by the pond that can be used from afternoon to evening, allowing residents to enjoy the pond view all day long. The bedroom is arranged to the north to provide a suitable temperature and receive cool breezes, while the washing area is on the south side, which helps with heat and air circulation. The area next to the pond on the south side is allocated for cultivating and growing small plants, creating a sense of gardening and being close to nature, which is an activity suitable for retirees and also adds a comfortable corner to the surrounding area.
Design of building functions and layout
The living room is designed to have a wide hall with a high ceiling sloping to the west, receiving natural light in the afternoon and not being too hot. The main entrance of the building has a ramp for easy access, especially to support future use when residents may have limited mobility. In addition, the south and west sides have wall skins installed to act as sunlight filters, preventing heat from entering the house in the afternoon, while allowing natural light to shine in just right. There is also a good ventilation function in the laundry area, increasing comfort and saving energy.
The fence is designed with a pattern that matches the building's light-filtering wall, helping to create harmony between the interior and exterior spaces. It also enhances privacy for the house, while still allowing views out to the garden or surrounding area, making residents feel airy and private at the same time.
THE POND HOUSE is therefore more than just a place to stay, as it is designed to combine living amidst nature and respecting the original environment, creating an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and the happiness of retirement.
