Ukrainian light designer and artist Mykola Kabluka will present a revolutionary approach to light design at Burning Man 2025 festival with his installation "The Point of Unity." The project demonstrates cutting-edge methods of working with optical effects and multisensory design, setting new standards for interactive spatial installations.
Simultaneously, the sculpture serves as a meditative space that seeks to create a moment of unity between sky and earth, human and nature, present and future.
The Point of Unity is based on a complex system of reflections that creates the visual effect of "rooting the sky." Kabluka developed an original methodology that allows positioning the sky simultaneously above and below the visitor, creating an illusion of infinite space. This is achieved through:
- Innovative mirror surface system with anti-glare coating
- Adaptive lighting that responds to natural changes in daylight
- Specially developed optical elements that maximize the reflection effect
The Point of Unity installation is a striking example of combining high-tech innovations with respect for nature. It is designed to operate in the extreme conditions of the Nevada desert, withstanding sharp temperature fluctuations, sandstorms, and intense ultraviolet radiation.
Key technical solutions implemented in the project include the use of corrosion-resistant alloys and special polymer coatings for reliable protection against dust and moisture, which is critically important in desert conditions. Thanks to its modular construction, the installation can be assembled in 4 days and disassembled in just 1.5 days. Additionally, it is equipped with an autonomous solar-powered energy system, emphasizing its environmental friendliness and independence.
Kabluka's project integrates advanced materials such as anodized high-grade aluminum with special sand that has enhanced reflective properties. This material palette creates a harmonious balance between technology and naturalness.
The Point of Unity is a call to reflection. The project explores fundamental questions of presence and wholeness, reminding us that changes in the world begin with each of us.
After its premiere at the Burning Man festival, The Point of Unity will be transported to Ukraine. The team is currently selecting a location that will correspond to its content and symbolism. Thus, the artwork will become available for public viewing, allowing Ukrainians and city guests to experience this unique encounter.
