We were commissioned to design seven bespoke and contemporary south-facing luxury holiday apartments on the site of a former golf driving range, with views across to Polzeath.
Although the client provided a very tight design brief in respect of the holiday accommodation and were hands on with design input, we were afforded the freedom to prepare a bespoke designed building. Landscape Architect input helped ensure that the apartment design blends in and complements the surrounding landscape but with minimal environmental impact, both during construction and maintenance.
The curved, undulating design form sits within a hill ridge and provides a split level building with reverse living accommodation over two floors. The inset balconies take advantage of the views from the first floor without compromising privacy. The building was finished with high quality natural materials such as Kebony cladding, a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood, and locally sourced natural stonework on the lower half of the building anchors the development in its environment. A sedum flat roof with a profiled curved zinc fascia provides a strong design feature to the building but ensures the building blends discretely within its spectacular surroundings.
