Recent years, there are some misunderstandings about Muslim and Islam in the Western world because of series of terrorist attacks. It sets societies spinning in a vicious cycle of fear and sporadic violence. But in fact, the doctrines of Islam express peace and love. In this context, a mosque built in western world should play an integrated role to eliminate misunderstandings and to help people to understand each other between Muslims and non-Muslims. For this reason, fusion is one of our goal of our proposal. The mosque we design will not only serve the Muslim community of the city and surrounding areas as a worship space and an Islamic center, but will educate the public about Islamic values and serve everyone as a community center for religious tolerance.
By following this idea, we propose a plaza mosque. A plaza, the most public architecture element, and a prayer hall, the most sacred space, are fused together in this design. The mosque will become a scared worship space and only accept Muslims during the praying time, while it will become a lively and public space and welcome everyone during the other time.
