The Pearl Bar in Berlin is one of the latest projects from interior design company IDEA and a pearl in their crown. Hand-made lighting and innovative design catch the attention of affluent arty Berlin crowd. USA Today ranks The Pearl on the third place in its recent rating “Top 10 places to enjoy the nightlife”. The newspaper describes the bar as “bauble on Berlin's charm bracelet of party spots... with dramatic LED lighting on the VIP-booth-flanked dance floor”. The Pearl is separated in two – bar area and club area.
The circular island bar which is visible from the street above became a centerpiece of the bar area with 25 000 stainless steel "waves" all knit on a metal wireframe and light using 700 LED pixels. For the ceiling and walls IDEA created a stylized version of a luminescent but from a solid acrylic rod. The effect - a sculptural centerpiece that compliments the whole space.
For the club area IDEA created an octagonal pyramid form that drops 30 cm from the ceiling. Above it they installed 3000 LED lit acrylic tubes connected to an ECUE control system giving the whole ceiling of the venue an extremely dynamic lighting.
But the real icing on the Pearl’s cake is the stage. “A matrix of 1500 pixels was created but that wasn't the difficult part. We conjured up a cloud made of fiber optic wires. 540 kilometers of hand knit fiber optic wires connected to the ECUE controls. The effect is a one of a kind custom made luminous cloud that reacts to the music and the crowd!”, comments IDEA’s CEO Alexander Kovachev.
All those IDEA’s efforts led them to the shortlist of prestigious “Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2014”. The Pearl Bar Berlin was nominated in 3 categories – Decorative lighting, Lighting scheme and Best bar in Europe.
