The Pallet house is a project undertaken under the nonprofit The World Hands Project. The housing design evolved out of a process of working with the local community in seeking a better housing solution for those living in substandard housing. The Pallet house is constructed out of locally available building materials, including recycled shipping pallets, earth and straw and windows and metal roofing. The home can be raised in one week through the WHP and their semi-annual workshops. These workshops allow volunteers to spend time in the community, learning about building practices and help fund the construction of much needed housing on the US/Mexico border.
