Located in the Emirate of Ajman and just a 25-minute drive from Dubai international airport, Al Zorah is a master planned mixed-use destination, developed by Solidere International in partnership with the Ajman Government. Al Zorah’s flagship resort, The Oberoi Al Zorah, designed by renowned architect Piero Lissoni, offers a luxury property with waterfront living and includes a hotel, private villas, restaurants, a spa, swimming pools and a private beach.
Piero Lissoni explains: “My inspiration comes from the atmosphere of this magic place. I have designed all the buildings trying to emphasize the beauty of the natural environment and capture the perfumes of the Arabian Gulf blending with the ones of the natural habitat of a mangrove forest. The interior design is sophisticated but based on simplicity. The use of large transparent openings and geometrical wood partitions allow the eye to travel freely to the distant horizon. The modern architecture blends in with perfumes of the local Orient, flavors of India, spicy elements arriving from the Occident, from Africa, from China, in true Italian style”.
The resort is divided into three platforms that run parallel to the ocean and each building is carefully positioned in relation to its function. The platforms rise up from the oceanfront and the height of the buildings increases with each so as to guarantee superb ocean views from all areas of the resort.
The Main Hotel is composed of separate buildings connected by light walkways, with shallow water pools that extend over the inner courtyard where the main restaurant and amenities are situated. An outer cladding of wood panels creates a play of light and shadow as day changes to night, while simple and pure concrete volumes project out from the façade in one continuous movement.
A key element of the resort, the Villas merge harmoniously into the overall design. The 3-Bedrooms Villas are composed of pure, interconnected volumes covered in smooth white stucco and contain a combination of protected terraces and large openings facing the ocean. The 2-Bedrooms Villas are formed by deep cantilevering slabs, that float over the ground floor, to create a series of shaded internal and external living areas. Sliding wood panels form a gentle barrier between the inside and the exterior gardens.
The Spa is a private and secluded world waiting to be discovered by the guests. Inspired by the layout of an ancient Medina, the Spa is composed of several small buildings placed closely together. Each construction contains a specific amenity and is designed as a pure volume covered in smooth stucco. Slender, open-air walkways provide guests with an intense experience that is further enhanced by the surrounding double-height volumes.
Positioned on the oceanfront, the Beach Restaurant is the place where the resort really comes alive. The overall mood is inspired by a contemporary approach to traditional oriental architecture, producing a restaurant that is divided into different pavilions connected together by walkways and arranged around a shallow pond.
