We live in an era of physical & virtual
mobility. Our understanding of how
the world operates and our impact
on it has changed. As a study of this
societal shift, this thesis connects
the human to their surroundings and
nature in ways more profound than
previous urban typologies.
The island is understood as a
contained space - a testing ground
for a new kind of experiential
place that satisfies the needs of
contemporary and future culture.
Visitors will be fully immersed in
an atmospheric mixing of activities
and informal movement. The formal
solution embraces diversity and
simultaneously brings us back to
nature.
In the idea of movement, there is
the notion of roads, paths, ribbons,
stops, breaks, halting-places. To
move is to travel. Strengthening the
site’s uniqueness as an island, the
project proposes to anyone a travel
in the city, in a new kind of urban
and public space. This form of travel
engages the body through physical
and visual perception, thereby
reconnecting the city dweller to his
city, to others, to nature and to
himself.
