The Magic Garden' installation by Mamou-Mani was part of the Regent Street Windows Project 2013 organized by the Royal Institute of British Architects, an event in which the RIBA pairs Architects and retailers to design an architectural window display. It has been designed to animate and seamlessly link all the windows of the store with a beautiful, fluid and surreal landscape. By using both digital and physical techniques including a smocking pattern varying in sizes, the architect has shaped 300m of light-diffusing polyamide mesh fabric to maximise its structural qualities and interact with the mannequins. The result reflects the precision of both tailoring and architecture as well as the colours and lightness of the Karen Millen SS13 collection.
'This is the ultimate wrap dress' said The Evening Standard,
"An illuminated scene which draws passers-by into the store like Alice down the rabbit hole.' said WAN ' World Architecture News,
'The collaboration has been really successful, since it was installed there has been a significant increase in sales' said Gemma Metheringham, Director of Karen Millen.
