We are excited to reveal our proposal for the private design competition Plaza Puembo, a project that invited us to reimagine the contemporary commercial plaza and its role within the city.
Our concept began by embracing the site’s natural topography, proposing a single-level pedestrian connection that links the two main surrounding streets through dual access points. This circulation strategy leads into a central plaza designed as an active social core, framed by restaurants and retail on the ground floor. Within this courtyard, we introduced a stepped seating area oriented toward large screens, allowing the space to host outdoor events and function as a flexible, multi-use gathering point.
The ground floor also incorporates a medium-scale entertainment venue envisioned as a new reference point for Puembo, while the upper levels accommodate offices, commercial spaces, and a gym. The volumes—subtle “L” shapes—rotate slightly on each level, creating movement, terraces, and shifting perspectives that respond to the mountain landscape of Quito and the warm climate of the valley.
On the exterior, the project responds thoughtfully to its urban context, opening toward both public and private transportation flows and placing the user experience at the center of its spatial and circulatory design.
Plaza Puembo is conceived as a mixed-use destination that blends landscape, architecture, and urban life, offering a vibrant and integrated experience while contributing to the identity and development of the area.
