Located in the heart of Bangkok business area, The Line Ratchathewi is surrounded by renowned educational institutes, famous tutoring schools, major shopping areas and convenient public transportation hubs such as BTS Ratchathewi and BTS Siam and thus facilities with the latest technology are provided for residences in responding to the diverse activities of metropolitan lifestyle along the train lines.
The Line Ratchathewi started out with the idea inspired by the mixed identities of people whose lifestyles are different but bonded together along the sky train lines. Mass of the building consists juxtaposition of two surfaces layers that representing the concept of “unearthing the inner jewel in oneself”, with the simple outer façade that breaks to reveal the complex space inside. The complexity of the internal space responds to the L-shaped site to solve the privacy problem in the design.
Residential, lifestyle, facilities, and social spaces are all contained in the L-shaped building of The line Ratchathewi. In accordance with the particular shape of the site, the challenge was to design an eye-catching building that answers to the city life of Bangkok within the complex condition of the site. The arrangement of rooms concerned most on perception and privacy. Instead of using normal fin to adjust the view, the visible area was controlled with fin screening of the façade generated by using an algorithm to control the viewpoint and keep the privacy of each room. By using simple vertical lines with different angles and sizes, the diversity of the fins created the emerging pattern of wave from interval spaces between each line.
Common areas are spread throughout the 38-storey building by providing activities spaces and also social integration. The ground floor provides a pocket garden that opens for the public, along with external outdoor and indoor facilities provides for residence at the pool deck on 11th floor, co-working and libraries spaces on the 31st and 32nd floor and the lounge connected to the sky garden on the rooftop. From the limited space of the site, the project uses an automatic parking system to provide convenience and enhance efficiency to the limited parking space.
The Line Ratchathewi is a high rise building with the design that reflects contemporary life, offers flexible spaces for the need of private space but also the need connecting and interact space at the same time.
