The main concept for the façade of this urban icon was to enhance it by the use of light.
Why? Because light is the main component to film making. It is the main factor when filming, as well as when projecting movies. Cinematography simply could not exist without light.
The main building was therefore surrounded by light within new external elements, providing a constant unity to the whole project as well as a new grand presence within the city.
During the day, those new elements create a mesh around the main building, granting a subtle hug to the composition.
The main building form was altered, stylized and purified constantly until it became a massive white block. It represents the purity of the movie industry, based on its capability to create images in a blank screen, its ability to provide new scenarios out of nowhere, and the power to play with light. That massive white block, coated with Corian, becomes translucent at night on its front façade, providing the opportunity to be used as a projection scenario, for events, trailer projections or even for casuistic everyday publicity use.
During Film Festivals, invitees can enter though the front doors at the main façade, through the projection screen. That will be as if they would be entering the real movie, becoming a part of the magic.
