3 Story urban home built on a swamp, covered in topsoil in the middle of downtown Toronto. A modest Canadiana cottage wood-frame building methodology atop steel piers. The 10 meter bridge to the front door also acts as the umbilical cord connecting to most city infrastructure services. 16 meter helical piles anchor the structure to bedrock. This board and batten resin impregnated plywood cladding is part of the minimal legal wall section allowed in Canada at the time. Further, with radiant floor heating and light weight concrete floors providing thermal mass, combined with the natural air movement, sun welcoming windows on it's south side proved to be extremely energy efficient summer and winter. Lastly the cladding colours were inspired by the Canadian artists, Group of Seven, and their colour palette interpretation of the southern Ontario landscape.
