The museum is housed in a two-storey building including a basement and a covered internal atrium. Dating from the period of Italian rule , it was probably designed by architect Rodolfo Petracco (1934-36). Eclectic elements of Novecento Italiano and traces of rationalistic references define the monumental facades and the curved volumes of the northern wing, respectively.
