The World Expo showcases the world's imagination for future living and technological solutions, with corporations playing an irreplaceable role in the interactive development of life and technology. In the process of globalization, humanity enjoys diverse and innovative lifestyles while also facing increasing real-world issues. Effectively utilizing limited resources to achieve sustainable development is a critical global challenge and a focal point for corporations worldwide. To demonstrate Korean corporations' thoughts and explorations on sustainable development, several prominent and visionary Korean companies jointly established the Korean Corporate Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. With the theme "Green City, Green Life," the pavilion showcased various "green" high-tech innovations related to urban living, including cutting-edge IT technologies and energy recycling research. Through colorful displays and videos, the pavilion promoted Korean green IT technologies that advocate for green, energy-saving, and efficient resource utilization.
The design of the Korean Corporate Pavilion was inspired by the dynamic traditional Korean dance, the "Sangmo Dance," focusing on the environmentally friendly concepts of recycling and coexistence. The architecture embodied a light and rhythmic "Green Spiral," evoking the joy of urban living and the ingenuity of industrial technology. The structure spiraled upwards with a novel, clean, and compact exterior material that surrounded the building like water waves, reflecting the interdependent and cyclical relationship between humans, nature, and urban civilization. The pavilion's exterior lighting created a subtle and unified image, with diverse and soft illumination at different times of the day enhancing the spiraling and rhythmic design effect. At night, the exterior alternated between the five traditional Korean colors—blue, red, yellow, white, and black—turning the building into a beautiful and colorful landscape.
