Housed in a red brick structure that used to be a chapel for a military hospital in Antwerp, the Jane is the brainchild of Michelin Star Sergio Herman and Nick Bril, conceived in collaboration with Piet Boon architect.
PSLAB's approach to the project was a site specific one, producing life-sized prototypes to sculpt bespoke lighting that compliments the space.
Upon entering the heavy chapel doors, guests are greeted with corrugated cylindrical lighting objects.
Moving inward to the center of the ground dining area, the use of brass continues in a set of table lamps that rise above the level of the seating, adding definition to the spatial layout.
The focal point of the space is a 12x9 m radius chandelier suspended over the dining area. Weighting 800 kg and suspended from one point in the ceiling, the chandelier dips to 2.75m above the ground, communicating a human scale, and then disperses back up filling the vaulted space with 150 glass bulbs.
Over the bar in the upper level, a set of projector lights are mounted on steel beams installed across the width of the chapel.
