The Interchange is a multipurpose memorial. Behaving as a temporary sanctuary from its wild surroundings, the memorial is intended to provide a flexible cultural platform for the exchange and storytelling of a traumatic moment in history. It is a space that we hope will educate and encourage tolerance. It is a memorial for the victims of the Jewish Holocaust and for all victims of Genocide and inhumanity. The Interchange is symbolic. A gentle pedestrian ramp down to the beach enables us to change our course from the Atlantic City Boardwalk, encouraging visitors to recognize the evolving nature of our diasporan cultures. As a programmatically flexible memorial, it can accommodate and promotes multiple functions including multimedia installations, music, lectures, contemporary art, live performances, cinema, theater and children’s education programs. This memorial is a place that looks forward while recognizing our past.
