The iconic mosque has taken its inspiration from an iconic idea in Islamic theology, the idea of ‘jannah’. The literal meaning of ‘jannah’ is garden, so the mosque is designed keeping in mind the sensibilities of a garden. The garden becomes the main setting for the saying of prayers in this mosque.
The main square shaped prayer hall of the mosque is placed in a circular water body accessed through the bridges. These two geometrical shapes (circle and square) have great importance in the Islamic architecture. The circle is the only complete shape representing divinity and the square, on the other hand, with its four corners represents the integrity of the earth.
The minaret an important symbolic element of mosque is designed as a glass skyscraper. The word has Arabic root ‘manara’ meaning lighthouse. This uniquely designed glass minaret of the mosque becomes a lighthouse, emanating green light at night and in the morning the plantation in the minaret makes it green. The minaret houses a café with souvenir shop in the base, a two-leveled exhibition space, an exotic plants floor and a viewing deck on the top. The form and the program of the minaret are designed in the most contemporary and iconic way.
The mosque further attains its iconic identity through a structure designed using Islamic geometric patterns that covers the main areas of the mosque complex. The mesh-like structure swells at strategic points on the site to form domes___ another symbolic element of mosques. The mesh-like structure is made out of metal pipes that contain water inside it and light bulbs on top. The water inside the pipes forms mist in the morning that will cover the mosque and it looks like heavenly clouds surrounding the mosque. The mist will provide pleasant feeling underneath it, protecting the visitors from the harsh sun and on the other hand, creates an enigmatic environment. The lights on the surface of the pipe lit at night looks like a galaxy of stars on top of the mosque and from the distance, domes appear like made out of millions of stars.
The minaret and domes together generate an iconic image for a mosque designed out of basic form.
