The starting point of this project in Berlin-Schöneberg was a completely empty living compartment in the front house of a protected historic building, which we re-designed and re-built to accommodate a four person family.
In the hallway an entirely green, room-high built-in furniture element integrates functional elements such as storage space, closet and coat rack. If one walks through it, one arrives at the bathroom. If one goes in the opposite direction, one arrives at the changing room, built in front of the bedroom. These functional elements are optically integrated with a continuous green flooring. Above the entrance and changing room intermediate ceilings were installed – to one hand create additional storage room and on the other accommodate a guest bed and provide the children with a larger play area.
The main rooms have classic parquet floors – creating a stark contrast to the „green area“ and thereby emphasizing the advantages of the spacious and well light rooms of a typical Berliner “Altbau” flat. The spacious playroom of both children was designed so that when they are older, they can be divided into two separate rooms.
