The project is called "the glowing picture palace" as the new
façade with its shining modular elements made out of white, translucent Corian®
illuminates the Pushkin Square with LED technique. This allows the cinema to
shine in different colours and manners as well as to show trailers of presented
movies or any other digital information to the public.
The cinema gets a remarkable exterior with an interesting geometrical
and 3-dimensional pattern that will be recognized not only because of its
special appearance but also because of its function (light and screen). The
modern techniques used to produce the modules correspond to the technology of
the interior building and shows it to the public.
The distinctive façade will work as a contemporary landmark for Pushkin
Square giving the Moscow International Film Festival a perfectly fitting
setting, emphasizing the important role of film culture in Russia.
The idea for the façade comes from the study of different patterns, like
those used on tiles. Patterns have a long history and are in this concept
developed in the third dimension and realized with a contemporary material.
The advantage of this 3-dimensional pattern used in different scales is
that the modules can have additional function. They do not only give the wall
its special look but also work as lights. Some of the bigger modules work also
as screens where trailers, pictures, text etc. can be displayed. The modules
give the displayed information more attention through framing it. The LED-spots
integrated all over the building allows to use the cinema as a media-façade,
which can also be interactive.
We decided to use Corian® as material for the elements because it can
form the hp-surfaces of the modules and the use of white, translucent Corian® is
able to realize our idea of a shining, brightful building.
