This 7.14 Million SF Mixed-Use project includes residential, retail and offices in six towers, a six story podium and three underground levels, with gardens and event terraces, and 14,000 parking spaces. A symbolic gateway to Reem Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE, begins with a monumental portico created by three residential towers linked by a suspended transom. The towers are gently tapered, creating a sculptured profile that frames the sky. The towers are textured by projecting balconies in a staggered pattern. The glass balustrades adds dimension to this effect, and the balconies add shadow and depth. A center core provides structural rigidity. The transom contains the amenities shared by all towers, linked by a series of bridges that ring two oculi. These elliptical voids between towers act as giant skylights casting a sculpted shadow below.
Nearby, two elliptical glass towers rise like welcoming torches. Clinging to their sides are a series of crystals that sparkle like three dimensional light beams. The first torch has cantilevered bay windows with offices and apartments stacked vertically around a center core. Certain rooms cantilever beyond the elliptical skin, and from vertical bands. The second torch compliments the first with cantilevered window bands that provide counterpoint to the vertically oriented partner.
Two curvilinear buildings (one completed) straddle the main road. The oval courtyard they create performs as a monumental room, like a landscaped square in a city, with elliptical voids penetrating the deck. An up-scale retail mall and parking garage above grade add dimension to the podium, and are clad in a mesh lit from behind at night to project a glow above the retail shops and signage. The podium roof becomes an elevated park with connecting bridges and elliptical swimming pools clad in different color mosaics. A landscaped plaza surrounds the towers at their base.
