The Garrack is a residential scheme for those aged 50 and over that draws inspiration from the local vernacular, placing a strong emphasis on the use of natural materials, including timber cladding and granite slips. This approach creates a distinct sense of place and belonging, giving each dwelling its own unique identity and personality.
Consisting of 22 thoughtfully designed apartments, the development encompasses a refurbishment of the existing Garrack Hotel, which has been transformed from a state of dilapidation into a vibrant focal point of the scheme. The remaining residences are nestled into the hillside, showcasing grass-topped roofs that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding landscape. This design choice not only strengthens the visual connection of the upper-tier dwellings to the sea but also reflects the natural fields that characterise the hillside.
With this strong focus on its costal landscape, the architecture of the Garrack site creating a calm environment that encourages residents to engage with their surroundings through their other senses. This thoughtful design philosophy ultimately creates a serene living environment that respects and enhances the natural beauty of its setting, including the landscape and the coast.
