The idea behind the renovation of the 1970s dwelling was to fuse a modern contemporary addition to the rear of the dwelling. As a 'fusion' is intrinsically a dynamic force, the entire addition is raked, as if forcing itself onto the existing dwelling. The external cladding, comprising of 32mm timber battens spaced at 20mm intervals, contrasts the stark white render. This emphasizes the distinction between existing and new. This differentiation is carried through into the interior with timber ceilings and walls vigorously abutting the existing plaster work.
