A total of EUR 53 m has been invested in the Fraunhofer CBP's core project. The contract to build the new Fraunhofer CBP, with a floor area of more than 2000 m2, was awarded to Scherr + Klimke AG in a pan-European VOF tendering procedure (a German procedure for awarding professional service contracts). The project was then successfully implemented by Scherr + Klimke AG as planners, in cooperation with CRC and LINDE Engineering GmbH.The Fraunhofer Centre, which is regarded as an innovation throughout Europe, comprises a main building with technical facilities and laboratories, a utility building and offices, and a separate building with storage areas for raw materials, auxiliary supplies and end products. The technical centre comprises several modules with documentation and technical rooms at the front, adjoining rooms for the office and laboratory building on the 1st floor, and the media line on the 2nd floor. All the technical equipment for producing the necessary media is installed in the utility building. There are accessible installation shafts under the technical centre; the utility building has cellars below its whole area. The modules are designed as steel structures, whereby the front building structure is constructed with the fire wall as a solid structure. The utility building consists partly of semi-precast materials, while the office and laboratory building is also designed as a solid structure cast in concrete on site (F60). The uniform building front, with its distinctive colouring, has an impressive steel structure at the front with oversized aluminium solar shading panels. The seminar and conference rooms are located so as to overlook the green areas.
