Upscale community offers seniors a balance of life and luxury
Retirement Companies of America, a non–profit organization, wanted to open a Continuing Care Residential Community in the Memphis area to appeal to a younger, more active demographic. The Farms at Bailey Station, set on 37 acres, offers personal choice to residents with distinctive architecture, quality materials and relaxing outdoors spaces. Located in Collierville, Tennessee, just minutes from Memphis, REES designed the community in a French Country Manor style to fit with a nearby subdivision also owned by RCA. The Farms at Bailey Station provides independent living, assisted living and memory care as well as Jordan River, a skilled nursing health care center.
Skilled Nursing
The Jordan River Healthcare Center includes 60 skilled nursing beds with 2 observations rooms, four dining areas for each "neighborhood" and a therapy suite within the building for inpatient and outpatient therapy. The Center provides inclusive medical care services through personalized physical, occupational and speech therapy care plans to patients with ongoing health conditions or permanent disabilities. Private studio suites are designed as easily accessible spaces with a home-like setting. A 4,300-square-foot rehabilitation center accommodates spacious learning areas and includes an indoor walking loop.
Assisted Living
The three-story Assisted Living building holds 52 units of studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom assisted living units as well as dining and living on each floor, or “neighborhood”. Each floor plan includes custom interiors, spacious kitchenettes, private bathrooms and walk-in closets. Common areas were designed with indoor and outdoor living in mind, allowing residents to relax and enjoy the day together.
Memory Care
The Memory Support portion, adjacent to the assisted living residence, is 30 units with two dining and living areas. The Memory Support’s design is enhanced by intentional, dementia-specific features. The design supports a feeling of safety, comfort and enjoyment for residents who have been diagnosed with dementia and/or other memory impairments.
Creating home-like environments
The Farms offers a variety of garden home and townhome options and spacious apartment floor plans, offering residents a sense of control and personal choice. Servery areas are designed with open seating and lined with residential-style cabinets. Services and amenities include restaurant-style dining, daily wellness programs and a beauty studio. These allow residents a wholistic level of care, encouraging socialization and growth. The Therapy Garden and central park is filled with beautiful features and pathways that allow residents to experience healing and socialization while being one with nature. Studies show physical activity in green spaces can be linked to decreased chance of depression and improved cognitive function. In living units, enlarged seating areas provide extra room for family members during visitations. This need was determined based upon RCA’s findings from their prior development.
Celebrating Sense of Place
Collierville is a traditional yet progressive community with a strong history, dating back to the mid-1830s. REES designed The Farms at Bailey Station in a French Country Manor style to fit with a nearby subdivision also owned by Retirement Companies of America. The aesthetic design reflects casual elegance, southern charm and impeccable style.
The Jordan River Health Center is named after the river of “Hope and Healing”. Biblically, this river is the place the Israelites crossed en route to the promised land and Jesus was baptized. Built into the Health Center’s floor is a symbolic illustration of Jordan River, a pool with a structural glass surface on top of it. Upon entry, residents “cross the Jordan River”, entering a space filled with calming colors and easy access to health services. The pool has its own HVAC system, a pool pump and electrical lighting. Our design team helped provide a conceptual design and a pool designer added stimulating water, rocks, and plants.
Mindful of resident wellness
Each part of The Farms functions to serve the holistic wellness of residents. Personal plans of care support mindfulness, fellowship and the uniqueness of each resident. Residents enjoy accessibility, flexibility and a sense of independence within designed spaces. Open floor plans encourage movement. The dining room areas, activity spaces and living rooms are places to gather with friends and family as they enjoy dining and social connections. An indoor walking path in the Memory Care unit allows activity in a safe, controlled environment. The Independent Living portion’s clubhouse is a hub for more social interactions such as dining, fitness and wellness, education, entertainment and art.
Great care and planning created an environment that is equally compelling on the outside as it is on the inside. Miles of sidewalks line the stunning 37-acre gated community, creating an environment of character and charm. The expansive Central Park is home to beautiful gardens, fountains, an outdoor kitchen, fire pits, a dog park and an event lawn with stage.
The community provides upscale amenities including restaurant-style dining, robust wellness programs, indoor pool, sports bar, beauty studio and auditorium. In addition, a one–acre central park gives residents a place to enjoy the outdoors and a pleasant view from their apartments.
The various living facilities support many levels of care, allowing The Farms to provide customized care programs supporting purpose, social connections, mental and physical stimulation. The Farms at Bailey Station was completed in May 2022.
Independent Living
Finally, the REES team planned and designed the Independent Living portion of the community. The Farms offers a variety of garden home, townhome options and spacious apartment floor plans, offering residents personal choice. The living facilities’ finishes are customizable to future resident preferences and needs.
