John Kaliski Architects designed a retail outlet, commercial kitchen, and teaching facility to expand the presence of the Sunday Hollywood farmer's market to seven days a week.
The new Farmer’s Kitchen invites patrons to linger and explore a variety of farm-fresh products. Food is prepped on site with local produce and is made available for purchase, creating a stimulating environment for culinary exchange.
In the evening, after the close of retail operations, The Farmer’s Kitchen is used for teaching and training low-income individuals seeking jobs in the food industry. The fully equipped commercial kitchen includes range-top pressure canners, small batch dehydrators, juicer, fryer, and pasta maker.
JKA assisted in site selection, programming, grant writing, and solving the challenges of planning within a small and irregularly shaped space. The design fits maximum equipment and functionality into an efficient workspace while providing an attractive, inviting retail and dining area that evokes a farm stand feel.
