The Ropewalk is located in the Dogpatch Historic District, San Francisco. The project is situated on a site that was once home to the Tubbs Cordage Company, whose wood pier once extended far out into the waters of the San Francisco Bay. Taking inspiration from the site’s industrial past and its maritime connections, Fletcher Studio created an engaging public space consisting of an elevated boardwalk, over a constructed wetland, that moves through the space connecting two plazas at either end of the linear site. The space relates to the history of the site, offering at one end public plaza with custom designed furniture and interactive art. The project features an outdoor museum space that is dedicated to the history of Tubbs Cordage Company.
