the deck bar frankston

Melbourne, Australia

YEAR
2013
The deck is a new bar/restaurant overlooking the frankston waterfront in a former post office/chinese restaurant/ stripper bar. Frankston was most famously "the beach", in the 60s post apocalyptic film "on the beach", with Ava gardner, gregory peck etc.
The building had been gutted by previous incarnations, leaving a rough raw shell. The new works over 2 levels included 3 bars, a kitchen and various dining and lounge areas. The existing raw character was enhanced by retaining floorboards, exposing brickwork, and re using old roof timbers for furniture and fittings.

A large new deck was added, with a bamboo and rope clad canopy over a stone faced bar, for a trpoical beach bar feel.
