Merged Concept of Hotel and Art Gallery
The design for this new hotel in Downtown LA needed to be both sophisticated and reflective of the urban art scene in the neighborhood. The client wanted the hotel to be a luxurious place to stay as well as a hip social scene in the bustling lifestyle of the city.
Art within hotels has typically been secondary. Instead, we made art a primary focus by housing artist residences and by turning public spaces into small galleries. The merged concept of the hotel and the art gallery come together in their shared ability to house collections, whether it be a collection of art or a collection of people.
The high design of art uniquely mixes with a material palate inspired by urban grit. This balanced tension results in a space that brings bold ideas to a continuously evolving neighborhood.
The rooftop features a bar, covered lounge and sun deck. The ATA design team configured three pod-like pools that overflow into a shallow reflecting pool covering the majority of the roof deck space. Coordinating sun deck pods accompany. On the basement level is a trendy bar and lounge that epitomizes the eclectic culture of the neighborhood.
