When the Cosmodome reimagined its permanent exhibition in 2011, it became the first science centre of its kind. Combining innovative multimedia installations with immersive environmental design and a flexible and personalized visitor experience, this popular museum invites visitors to live a series of emotional and interactive virtual space adventures while inspiring curiosity about space and astronautics in the young and young at heart.
The Cosmodome’s broad audience range and fluctuation of demand meant that we needed to create an interactive exhibition that would work just as well for a couple of local families or several busloads of schoolchildren.
When the museum is busy, the system makes split-second decisions to ensure maximum efficiency of visitor flow, sending visitors to rooms that have just become available. As visitors file into a new room and the doors close, the right multimedia production launches according to the mission that the visitors in the room have selected, and how far along their mission they are. The result is that no two visits are ever the same.
Visitors volunteer for one, two or all three of these highly interactive simulations and experience first-hand the historic first trip to the moon, a future manned mission to Mars, or a space probe’s journey towards the outer limits of the cosmos. Each mission turns visitors into the heroes of their own space exploration stories, and the three separate missions provide a diversity of experience that encourages repeat visits.
The Cosmodome uses highly immersive and interactive experiences to render a complex subject relevant—even thrilling—to a broad public. Visitors experience space travel and engage with numerous scientific concepts through original multimedia productions and engaging interactive games, all developed by GSM Project.
