The additions and alterations of this design were achieved by removing most of the internal walls on the ground floor and adding a porte cochere, and a lanai with an infinity edge pool.
The porte cochere is suspended from a semi-circular beam supported by the bisecting wall and a huge column and transfer beam over the pool.
Water features were added into the design; a koi pond to the north side of the existing lounge, a small waterfall at the front door and huge sheet of water visible through a cut-out in the massive rusted steel wall. The koi pond features glass stepping stones that lead to a new pivoted glass front door.
The north wall was replaced with frameless sliding/folding doors in the family room, to allow the kitchen, dining and family rooms to integrate seamlessly into the lanai, making this dream home ideal for entertaining.
The roof of the family room was also lifted to create a double volume space with huge north-facing windows that allow light and sun into the living space and kitchen during winter.
A gymnasium was added to the design and has a view across the family room and the new roof deck over the lanai.
A spectacular new suite comprising of a private lounge and study, open plan bedroom, bathroom and dressing rooms was added. These rooms were built into the mountain at a higher level than the roof of the rest of the double storey house to optimize the views to the north.
