The Christmas Project is based on childhood
memories about making decorations for Christmas.
The simplicity of paper models like trees or
stars together with the use of a candle light has always been an essential part
of Christmas.
These decorations have a very architectural
character as well and for the Christmas Project at Merchant Square we are
transforming those ideas into a large scale arts project.
The newly finished No5 Merchant Square
Building will be supporting a fabric structure by fixing a large beam on Level
9.
This structure is made out of simple sheets of
a silver mesh fabric. Its shape is based on a star shape plan which becomes a 3
dimensional treelike form. At night it will be illuminated from within to
create a warm and cosy atmosphere.
