Project is located in Universiade New Town in Longgang Distict, Shenzhen, and is committed to create a new campus with regional features of Shenzhen as well as modern urban connections. In the conceptual planning, through learning from outstanding campus features of CUHK Shatin, in China and abroad, researching the history and culture of the CU HK, analyzing the conditions of the site, especially, we are inspired by the existing Pathway of Universiade Natural Park running through the site, so as to develop the concept of “Hope Vine”. It not only symbolize the young students’ school spirit of climbing infinity, but also like a green ribbon connecting the Nature and Culture, China and the West, Tradition and Modernity, Shenzhen and Hong Kong together.
Planning Strategies:
1. Conditions: Campuses are separated by hills + Pathway of Universiade Natural Park;
Solution: Hope Vine, Ring of Encounter – Campus Greenway;
2. Conditions: Limited depth of the campus + Peaks’ view in the Park (Tong Gu Hill);
Solution: Extending the Entrance Main Axis;
3. Conditions: Site has a 45° angle to the orthogonal directions + Classrooms, dormitories, ect. need south orientation & Auditorium, sports hall don’t need to face south;
Solution: Plane composition style flexible architectural layout in a grid of orthogonal and 45° directions;
4. Conditions: Hillsides terrain + Lingnan regional stilt style architecture;
Solution: Master plan’s vertical design conforming to the terrain and partially elevated.
