THE CABINET HOUSE is a simplest module of a daily life for a bachelor. At the present situation, when interiorisation of urban space is omnipresent; more and more of public domains are covered and weatherproofed, the Cabinet Houses find themselves perfect sites for their colonisation. Instead of adopting the conventional way of living, the Cabinet House condenses all necessary programs together and removes all internal connections. In other words, what we normally call circulation of corridor is flipped to the outside.
By getting from one program to another, the resident has to step out of the house into public space first then get back inside again. In a day, as he or she continues his or her practice of daily life, the changes from private space to public domain, and vice versa, happens so many times that the frontier between public and private is dissolved. The space where the Cabinet House situated has become part of the house. Adjacent public programs become extension of domestic uses. Every time the doors are opened, the programmatic shape of the house is reformed. The overall plan of this house is stretched as far as one can draw.
A unit of Cabinet House consists of; 1. mass-produced linear furniture made of acrylic polymer 2. cabinet door panels and building frame made of MDF boards 3. incoming pipes and inlets for fresh water and electricity 4. outgoing pipes and outlets for sewerage and waste water. The Cabinet House is a pre-fab system using simple know-how of basic carpentry skill and cabinetry joinery works. The linear furniture comes in sectional pieces with interlocking connections, and is self-supporting without any additional structure.
