Since 1984, Arpad
Baksa Architect, P.C. has been a constant presence in Harlem. We have
completed 20 Brownstone Renovations and Restorations throughout Harlem,
most notably in the Hamilton Heights, Mount Morris Park and Jumel
Terrace Historic Districts. These "Forgotten Jewels" of New
York's past have been neglected for years and were badly in need of
repair. The rich materials: first-growth woods, stone, stained glass
and ivory, originally used in the construction of these Brownstones are
no longer manufactured or available to us today. In order for the
rebuilding process to continue, we have undertaken a decisive role in
restoring the original materials and features of these buildings. The
restorations include the interiors and exteriors, most notably the
Victorian-era mill-work and the ornate Brownstone, which are a few of
their most distinctive historic features that are no longer prominently
used today. Our past experience in historic preservation has given us
the opportunity to be an integral part of the rebuilding of these
historic buildings in one of the city's most prominent neighborhoods. Our
commitment to detail and our respect for the history of Harlem has
enabled us to pursue our goal of excellence with complete success. We
feel lucky to be an active part of the preservation of these
Victorian-era buildings to their former elegance and to be part of The
Renaissance of Harlem.
