Interior designer Leigh Azriel’s first self-directed residential project transforms a modest single-storey semi-detached house into a 260sqm, four-level home that clearly separates living areas, private quarters, and an independent rental unit. Materiality defines the design, with exposed concrete, breeze blocks, and wood creating a layered balance of warmth and raw texture. A striking concrete breeze block façade provides privacy and shade to the street-facing terrace while allowing air and filtered sunlight to animate the interiors with shifting patterns throughout the day. The blocks continue around the perimeter, responding to the Mediterranean climate and grounding the modern design in its local context. A former double-height void becomes a central feature, enhancing both the living area and master suite with dramatic ceiling heights and a commanding concrete wall. A sculptural woven light fixture hangs above a black steel staircase linking all levels. The home unfolds from open-plan communal spaces to private family zones, embodying thoughtful, contemporary living.
