In a refreshing departure from the norm, The Blueman House reimagines the concept of a traditional semi-detached house. The design prioritises openness and a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. Spanning two stories, a basement and an attic, this residence offers ample space for a family of three.
Eschewing the conventional front boundary wall, a more open & welcoming approach is featured. By incorporating landscaping, it fosters a sense of openness and breathability. This eliminates the feeling of enclosure often associated with semi-detached properties and blurs the lines between the interior living spaces and landscape.
The exterior design features three stacked boxes subtly shifted to create a dynamic composition. Expansive glass panels throughout create an effect of a floating mass, further emphasizing the interplay of light and openness. The contrasting materials used on the exterior echo the interior palette, tying the entire design together. A defining feature is a long pool that stretches gracefully alongside the house. This element serves a dual purpose: acting as a visual divider, separating the property from the neighbour’s while simultaneously creating a tranquil focal point.
The true brilliance of design is to achieve a sense of spaciousness that rivals a detached house. The ground floor features open-plan living spaces that flow effortlessly out to the outdoor deck, creating a welcoming space for family gatherings and entertaining guests. This fosters true indoor-outdoor living, further enhanced by the abundance of natural light. Every room in the house, including the main staircase, is designed to receive ample natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere while having a view to the focal point of landscape & the pool.
Layering various materials, light timber elements create warmth while contrasting with dark grey accents in the kitchen and bathrooms creating an interesting interplay between darkness and light. This thoughtful material play is complemented by a collection of carefully curated furniture pieces.
The design not only achieves a seamless connection with nature, but also recognizes the Home Owner’s passion for collecting artwork. Designated spaces throughout the house are thoughtfully created to showcase these cherished pieces, ensuring that the artwork becomes an integral part of the living experience, adding pops of colour and personality. More importantly, it becomes a canvas for the Owner’s art collection, transforming the house into a vibrant and truly personal space.
