Context Architects is the official architects to TV3’s highest rating reality TV show The Block, working on the show since it began in New Zealand back in 2012.
We started work on the 2013 series back in February to transform one brick ex-state house, one battered 1930s villa, a turn of the century working man’s cottage and a Californian bungalow into what you saw on your screens. Context also created the master plan for the site in Belmont on Auckland’s North Shore, turning the mud-ridden plots into a sophisticated, spacious mews development.
We developed the designs for how each house would be renovated and extended out and up to deliver the three-bedroom, two-bathroom family homes.
“Using our residential project management expertise, we managed the behind-the-scenes subdivision, design, consents and construction process for The Block, and in record time. We held the contestants hands early on and got them thinking about how to approach the interior design of the four very different homes,’ explains Context’s residential expert architect Scott Cracknell.
