The former Airport Tempelhof is transformed into the symmetrically
arranged system of artificial isles, washed by the water pumped from the
nearby river. The isles are occupied by the mysterious so-called
“Bipolar City”. Two equal giant buildings are situated on the smaller
isles in the opposite corners of the site, standing on the former
airport complex main axis. These are the cultural centers each
completely dedicated to the former states, which existed on the
territory of modern Germany no longer than 20 years before: DDR and BRD.
These impossibly wonderful spaces are expected to become the virtual
worlds which will help every guest to dive deep into to culture of two
disappeared countries. Each complex includes a theater and philharmonic
hall, the museums of technology, science and art, — everything to
collect and demonstrate every part of unique culture of 1949—1990, which
existed in DDR and BRD. The architecture of buildings represents
metaphorically the State — official, blind and monolithic like a strong
rock from one side and unprotected and reflecting like a fragile curvy
glass structure from another side. The buildings are equal to symbolize
that no ideological differences can ever separate the nation. Instead of
many barriers and walls two parts of one big culture are separated now
by nothing accept the picturesque scenery of new residential areas,
which you can observe from a fast monorail cabin, using the most unique
element of composition — the Roman bridge. The bridge brings the
memories of the great ancient architecture in Europe and also
metaphorically reminds of the famous Tempelhof Air-bridge.
