The Pushkinsky Cinema is located in a key public gathering area with vibrant and creative community activities. However, it fails to create a presence or public connection among its established surroundings.
Our design addresses these issues, pulling inspiration from the rich history and culture of Pushkin Square, the city of Moscow, and mother Russia, transforming the Pushkinsky Cinema back to the beacon of community entertainment and public interactivity. The design embraces the innovative cinema façade, as well as creates a powerful connection between itself and the public space by the vertical extension of the existing lobby and the widening of the approach stairs and entry platform. With the use of strategically placed interactive satellite beacons located throughout the area, visitors discover the history of the square and the presence of the cinema’s new facade. By elevating the experience of the approach and re-establishing the cinema’s status in the district as the “palace” of the Moscow International Film Festival, the Pushkinsky Beacon will serve to build emotion and anticipation that embodies the call of modern cinema and entertainment.
The Beacon utilizes technologies in an innovative way to enhance sustainable design strategies and to create an inviting, interactive, educational and vibrant community gathering and entertainment space.
